Mouni Roy breaks silence on being typecast
Mouni Roy is making a big impression with her role in Salakaar, and people online are really liking her performance. She shared that her journey hasn’t been easy. From the start of her career, she has often been put into certain categories. She has learned to deal with that over time. In an interview with Showsha, she talked about how she was typecast right from the beginning. She mentioned that when she first acted in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, people thought the girl-next-door character couldn’t act in a glamorous role. Then, after she did some reality shows and dance competitions, they said she was too glamorous. And when she acted in Sati, they said she was too Indian.
Here’s how Mouni Roy deals with being typecast after her iconic TV roles
She said that when she played roles in fantasy or mythological films like Naagin, they cast her in such roles, saying she is suitable for such projects. She said she has always faced this, but it no longer bothers her. She said, ‘It doesn’t matter if you describe me as glamorous, stylish, or any other label. When she played BrahmÄstra or Bhootnii, they cast her for these roles, not the kind of larger-than-life characters, but more outlandish roles. She said she plays those to perfection. She said her takeaway from each of these roles is that it resonates with the audience and they receive it well.
Mouni stated that she feels hungry and is primarily interested in roles that reflect a greedy, yet meaningful clashing of like-minded individuals. She aims to work in different, challenging roles she has not explored yet. She began her career with the show “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi,” and gained recognition with “Naagin.” Mouni has been featured in films such as “Made in China,” “Brahmāstra,” and “Romeo Akbar Walter.” On a personal level, Mouni is married to Suraj Nambiar, a businessman based in Dubai.
